Welcome to DDC

Welcome to Diva Deep Cuts – where we journey together through the best songs you’ve never heard by the great divas of today and yesterday. Thank you for checking out my show and my blog! Below you will find the guidelines and some FAQ for DDC. Please take a look and feel free to reach out if you have any questions!

The Rules (Guidelines, really)

I have set myself some guidelines to assist in the production of each season – namely how I select the artists featured on Diva Deep Cuts as well as which songs can appear in each episode.

  1. No singles allowed: When I say singles, I mean songs that received a radio push, music video, or other promotional campaign.

  2. The Best New Artist Rule: An artist must have at least 4 albums or a catalog of at least 60 songs. A catalog must be deep enough to have deep cuts!

  3. The Dolly Parton Rule: Artists with 20 albums or more will be split across two episodes and receive more than one Top 10 list.

The Housekeeping

My intention is for each episode to have a corresponding playlist, forgotten single clip, and blog post. However, at the time of writing (August 2023) I am still setting up my workflows. Hopefully the production of Season 2 will get this established so DDC can be a well-oiled machine!

BONUS CONTENT – I have set up a subscription tier through my podcast host and this means extra episodes!! My plan is to have 3-5 bonus episodes each season which are only available to subscribers. There is not a set format for these, it depends on who is being featured – for example, I plan to feature my favorite Lindsay Buckingham deep cuts as a separate subscriber-only episode when I get to Fleetwood Mac (since he is not queer or a woman, but certainly is integral to FM’s success).

Lastly, you may be asking, why did the format change from Season 1?
It was two reasons really.

First, I felt like album reactions were not capturing the spirit of DDC since they included singles and brand new music. My idea to showcase unsung deep cuts requires me to have a level of familiarity with the music and an opinion on an album can change with repeated listens.

The second was to expand the reach - and that required no longer inserting the songs between my segments of commentary. The Music + Talk feature of Spotify for Podcasters taps into Spotify’s library of songs and pays the royalties to the copywrite holders so I don’t get in trouble, but it means those episodes will ONLY appear on Spotify. The curated playlists for each episode are the best alternative I could come up with so far. Feel free to pause my show and listen along or listen to the playlist and episode in whichever order you choose!

Thank you so much for taking the time to read and again, Welcome!!
